In the heart of southern Africa, Botswana shimmers in the heat of the Kalahari sands. It harbours the unique Okavango Delta and an incredible amount of wildlife. In Botswana, which is about 582 000 square km (of which 17% is protected!) one can find the Big Five and almost 600 different species of birds. In this peaceful country, with a population of less then 1 person/ square km, one can still find tranquility and serene beauty. Diamonds and tourism are the main sources of the economy and this has resulted in Botswana being stable and welcoming for tourists from all over the globe. 80% of the country is covered by Kalahari sand, though many areas are covered by grass and scrub or are lightly forested.
Birding is superb in Africa’s greatest wilderness areas: - The world-famous Okavango Delta, southern Africa’s finest wetland. - The fabulously bird-rich Chobe River Front in Kasane, Chobe National Park and surrounding forests. - The Kalahari Desert and Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. - Africa’s largest reserve, vast 52 000 km² Central Kalahari Game Reserve. From the world’s biggest bird (the Ostrich) to the heaviest flying bird (the Kori Bustard) to the most numerous of all birds (the Red-billed Quelea), Botswana has a truly impressive variety and quantity (577 species recorded) of bird species.
To get the best out of this birding/game drive Safari we have chosen a luxury (mobile) camping safari. That means that during the trip our camp gets taken down and put up by the staff at a different location every second or third day. The camp is moved by a truck ahead of us and will be up upon arrival at the new campsite. This maximises the time we can spend birding/game driving. We are sleeping In "classic" walk-in safari tents, 10 sqm, with en-suite bathroom facilities, on beds with mattresses. All linen provided, with electrical light, mosquito spray, soap, body lotion and drinking water on bedside tables.
And yes, there are no flush toilets, but showering under the African stars is unforgettable!

And the best way to end an African Day in the bush is having a delicious meal taken in the mess tent or in the open if weather permits. We will also provide a good glass of wine to accompany the three-course, candlelit dinners under the African stars.
